If you are a dog lover, chances are you have heard of the American Bully breed. These sturdy, muscular dogs have gained tremendous popularity in recent years due to their friendly nature and charming looks.
But there's a relatively new variation of the American Bully that has been stealing hearts all around - the Pocket Bully. It's hard not to fall in love with these pint-sized versions of the already adorable American Bully.
A Pocket Bully is essentially an American Bully that falls under the shortest height category for the breed. According to the United Kennel Club (UKC), the body length of a Pocket Bully should not exceed 17 inches at the withers (shoulder blades). This makes them significantly smaller than their Standard or XL counterparts, which can reach up to 20 inches in height.
The American Bully breed was developed in the United States by crossing various bully breeds like the American Pitbull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Bulldog. They were bred to be compact, muscular dogs with a friendly temperament.
However, within this breed, there emerged a demand for even smaller dogs. Breeders began selectively breeding especially small American Bullies to create what we now know as Pocket Bullies.
