The Challenge

We are looking for a skilled Automotive Mechanic/Equipment Repair Technician to join our Maintenance Operations & Fleet Management team.

 

In this role, you will:

Provide journey-level maintenance and repairs of automotive, heavy-duty trucks, and equipment bodies in accordance with accepted standards and repair practices.

Maintain and repair:

Engines (gasoline and diesel)

Electrical systems

Power trains

Wheels and tires

Tracks

Brakes (air and hydraulic)

Transmissions (manual, power shift, & automatic)

Hydraulic systems

Cooling systems

Snow removal equipment

Prepare new equipment for use in our 14 highway divisions.

Install bodies on truck chassis, brooms on wheel tractors, mowers on tractors, lights, reflectors, decals, or other safety devices, hydraulic accessories.

Install, repair, fabricate, or upholster auto/equipment interiors.

Perform automotive interior work NCDOT fleet equipment.

Install plastic/polycarbonate sheeting on equipment to meet special needs or requirements.

Repair, rebuild, or maintain light/heavy equipment and components.

Provide operation-ready equipment and inventory support for field forces in construction, maintenance and other transportation-related applications relating to roads, highways, and bridges.

 

What You Bring

Knowledge of automotive and/or heavy equipment repair.

Experience using techniques and methods involved in determining and solving mechanical problems.

Demonstrated ability to use precision measuring devices and computer driven diagnostic equipment.

Knowledge of modifying equipment and installing aftermarket upgrades.

Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend technical/instructional manuals, repair, and maintenance information data from computer websites.

Class A Commercial Driver's License.

Ability to use and operate machines and instruments in an automotive/heavy equipment repair shop.

Working knowledge of the design of automotive bodies and related parts and of methods, tools, and equipment used in their repair or replacement.

Working knowledge of the strength and malleability of metals.

Working knowledge of the principles of acetylene welding as applied to body repair work.

Skilled in the performance of complex duties relating to the repair, maintenance and/or body work of automotive/heavy equipment.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Strength to work at heavy manual labor for considerable time.

 

Note

We may require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III, or Universal Technician.

 

Education & Experience

High School/GED diploma, and

2+ years of relevant experience, or

An equivalent combination of education and experience.
